# sitting GCSEs
Planning for exams at home
Home-educated young people can sit GCSEs as private candidates. You arrange entry with an exam centre that accepts private candidates and pay the entry fees yourself, so it’s worth contacting centres early.
GCSE Computer Science has no coursework to supervise; it’s assessed by exams. Some boards include an on-screen paper, so check the centre can run it before you choose a board.
Each of our GCSE courses follows one board’s specification, so pick the board first and the course and tracker follow it.

# questions parents ask
Home education FAQs
Do we have to follow the National Curriculum?
No. Home-educating families in England don’t have to. Our courses follow it, which many parents find a helpful benchmark rather than a rulebook.
Do I need to know computing myself?
No. The learn guides explain each topic in plain English and every assessment answer comes with a reason, so your child gets feedback without you having to mark it.
Is Teach io a full home education provider?
No. We cover computing in depth from early years to GCSE, plus KS3 curriculum plans for other subjects. Most families use us alongside their other resources.
How do I cancel?
From the account page, at any time. Cancel within the 7-day trial and nothing is charged.
Who can answer questions about home education rules?
Your local authority’s elective home education team can help with questions about your legal duties. We’re happy to help with anything about our courses.
