Teach io Careers · for secondary schools

Every pupil’s ambition, on record from Year 7 to Year 11.

A two-minute aspiration check-in each year, a labour market course pupils actually finish, and a Compass+ upload file ready at the end. Built by a practising careers lead.

What you get

Three things, done properly.

Gatsby Benchmark 3

Aspiration check-in

Five questions, once a year, in pupils’ own words: the job they want, how sure they are, what they plan after Year 11 and what they still need to find out. Each year adds to their journey.

Gatsby Benchmark 2

Labour market course

Short, interactive lessons on local jobs, pay, growing sectors and routes in. Pupils look up their own chosen career, and each lesson ends with a short assessment so completion means something.

Compass+ ready

Evidence without retyping

Every completion is matched to the pupil’s UPN. Download a file laid out for the Compass+ activities upload, then reports by year group and form for SLT and governors.

How it works

Set up in an afternoon. Run in form time.

Export from SIMS

One report: UPN, name, year and reg group. We import it and create pupil logins.

Hand out logins

Login slips print by form group. Tutors can reset passwords for their own form.

Pupils complete

Check-in in form time, the course in PD lessons. Thirty pupils at once is no strain.

Upload to Compass+

Download the activities file and upload it in Compass+. Reports update as pupils finish.

For careers leads and SLT

The evidence your development plan already promises.

Most school plans commit to tracking encounters and aspirations for every pupil. Compass+ records activities well, but it isn’t built to hold what pupils want to do or how that changes. Teach io Careers fills that gap and feeds Compass+ rather than replacing it.

  • Completion by year group and form, so you know who has missed out
  • Aspirations by sector, year on year
  • Pupils who are unsure or say “don’t know” after Year 11, flagged for guidance
  • Plain-English summaries for SLT and governors
  • You stay in control: you upload to Compass+ yourself, so nothing is sent without you
Questions

Before you ask.

What pupil data do you hold?

Only what the careers work needs: name, UPN, year and reg group, plus pupils’ own answers and course progress. We don’t ask for Pupil Premium or SEND flags at this stage.

Do we need a data protection agreement?

Yes. Your school is the data controller and Teach io is the processor. We sign a data processing agreement with every school before any real pupil data goes in.

Does it sync with Compass+ automatically?

No. Compass+ doesn’t offer an open connection for this. Teach io produces the upload file in the right layout and you upload it, which takes a couple of minutes.

How long does the check-in take?

About two minutes. It’s designed for form time, once a year.

Can pupils use school Microsoft accounts?

Not yet. Pupils get a Teach io username and password at launch. Microsoft sign-in is planned.
