Every skill has a main task that is checked automatically against test inputs, like an exam mark scheme. Pass it and the next skill unlocks. Miss it twice and you're given a smaller task on the same skill first, then sent back to finish the main one.

Check runs your program against several inputs and compares every line of output.
Two misses switch you to a consolidation task on the same skill. Hints unlock after your first miss.
Pass the consolidation, then redo the main task. Only passing the main task masters the skill.
